5 Quick Winter Beauty Tips

Cold weather is pretty much around the corner (well at least for us in NYC it is).  With the changing weather there are some adjustments that we should be making to our personal care routine.

1. Get a humidifier:
These devices are actually a godsend not just for your hair but for your skin, lips, throat, nose, pretty much everything that is negatively affected by the dry air in the winter (they help a lot when the kiddos bring home sickness). It is important to take care of your humidifier per the manufacture's instructions. If it is not cleaned and properly maintained you can actually cause irritation and maybe even help spread germs through the air. A well maintained humidifier will go far in helping combat problems that arise when the air is super dry.

2. Use some sort of lip moisturizer:
I have ALWAYS had a problem with dry lips. I have to work to make sure mine aren't. I recently found a way that is really helping keep the dryness at bay. I currently use one of three lip products that I love. Two are very natural brands and the other is a medicated one. I just use what ever one is closest to me at the time. That being said the natural based ones are probably better because people do tend to ingest some of what they put on their lips. My personal favorite is Toosh (We lost the cap on accident so I replaced it with a washed cap that had belonged to another lip care product that I wasn't too crazy for.) We had received it in a Bluum Box and I have been in love with the product ever since. Now the tip that really helps is to lock the moisturizer in (usually at night before bed) with some petroleum based jelly.

3. Wear gloves when you're outside and use a hand cream:
Sometimes I am in a hurry with the two little ones. (Getting ready takes forever in the morning when you are getting little people ready along with yourself.) However, it doesn't take long for my skin to show that it isn't happy with me for forgetting to grab my gloves. My hands get cracked really quick if I am not good about putting on gloves before going out side if it is a little chilly. And a good hand cream can also go a long way for both your skin and nails. I am currently using Juice Beauty Green Apple Age Defy Hand Cream.

4.Protect and treat your hair:
Winter can be brutal on hair. The combination of dry hair and wind does a number on healthy stands if you aren't mindful. If it is a windy day outside I suggest securing your hair in some sort of style that will prevent the wind from tangling it.  The less often you have to untangle your hair the less likely your strands will be subject to what is known as "mechanical damage" which is when you physically cause breakage by tugging on the hair and causing a snap on the hair strand. This is especially important if you have long locks, they tangle like you wouldn't believe. Also be sure to use some sort of deep conditioning treatment. I use coconut oil on my hair and scalp  every once in a while.

5. Drink more water:
If you're anything like me, it can be easy to forget to drink an adequate amount of water. If you want to be running around all groggy, slow, dehydrated and such then continue on. If you want you want to be slimmer, have healthier and even younger looking skin, or just be healthier overall then making  a conscious effort to take in the proper amount of water for your lifestyle will go far.

*And one last thing, try to remember your sunscreen too for exposed skin. The UV rays don't care that it is 20 degrees out they are still going to cause damage.
